Beholder Will Ship to Kentucky on October 19th

Beholder, impressive winner of the Zenyatta Stakes (gr. I) last Saturday at Santa Anita, will ship to Kentucky on October 19th in advance of her much-anticipated start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) on October 31st at Keeneland.

According to the Santa Anita Stable Notes for October 3rd, the Classic remains the goal for Beholder, who has also been under consideration for a run in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (gr. I) against fellow fillies and mares, a race she won impressively in 2013. Per the notes, “Richard Mandella said two-time Eclipse Award champion Beholder would ship to Kentucky on Oct. 19 for the Breeders’ Cup, and still has the $5 million Classic on Oct. 31 as her top priority as opposed to the $2 million Distaff on Oct. 30.”

In addition to the Zenyatta Stakes, Beholder also won the Pacific Classic (gr. I) against males by 8 1/4 lengths earlier this summer, a performance that stamped her a major contender for victory in the Classic.
