Ziconic, Zenyatta’s Second Foal, Posts Workout at Saratoga

Ziconic, the unraced second foal out of the legendary 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, recorded the first timed workout of his career earlier this morning at Saratoga.

A son of Tapit, the two-year-old Ziconic breezed the distance in a very easy :51.23 seconds, which was ranked 41st-fastest of the 47 morning workouts at that distance. The colt is being trained by John Shirreffs, who trained Zenyatta and also conditions Cozmic One, Zenyatta’s first foal.

In all likelihood, Ziconic will not be ready to race until this fall, but if he progresses well, he should be able to debut during his 2yo season, which would give him a chance to try for the 2016 Triple Crown if he proves talented enough.
