Wise Dan Week Part 7: The 2014 Shadwell Turf Mile

The last race of Wise Dan’s career came in the 2014 Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. I), which marked his fourth appearance in the race. After finishing fourth in 2011 and first in 2012, Wise Dan finished second in an off-the-turf renewal of the race in 2013, but rebounded in 2014 to end his career on a winning note. Making his second start back from colic surgery, Wise Dan had a tricky trip breaking slowly and racing wide behind slow fractions, but when the real running began, he accelerated gamely one last time and won going away by a length. What a horse!
