The workout, which was the eighteenth-fastest of thirty morning workouts at that distance, was War Story’s second since finishing sixteenth in the May 2nd Kentucky Derby (gr. I). On May 12th, War Story worked a half-mile in a modest :51.80 at Churchill Downs.

During the winter, War Story established himself as a contender for the Triple Crown races by placing second in the Risen Star Stakes (gr. II) and LeComte Stakes (gr. III) and third in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II). Although he has yet to win a stakes race, War Story has stamped himself as a talented colt that could make an impact in the Belmont under the right circumstances. A son of Northern Afleet out of the Pulpit mare Belle Watling, War Story is trained by Tom Amoss and owned by Loooch Racing Stables, Glenn Ellis, and Christopher Dunn. The Daily Racing Form has reported that the colt will be ridden in the Belmont Stakes by Colby Hernandez.
