Spiral Stakes (gr. III) winner Oscar Nominated turned in his first and last pre-Kentucky Derby workout at Churchill Downs on the morning of April 29th, breezing five furlongs in 1:00.80.

Trained by Mike Maker, the son of Kitten’s Joy had been training at the Trackside Training Center near Churchill Downs, but recently shipped to Churchill Downs to wrap up his serious training for the Derby. With jockey Julien Leparoux in the saddle, Oscar Nominated breezed in company with the maiden Hint of Roses and edged his workmate by 1 1/2 lengths before galloping out very well.

“I thought he worked really well,” trainer Mike Maker was quoted as saying in a Churchill Downs press release. “He got over the grounds really well. We aren’t trying to do too much, we just want to keep him happy.”
