The unbeaten three-time grade I winner Nyquist, who won the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) to stamp his credentials as the best two-year-old colt in training, could make his much-anticipated 2016 debut in the February 15th San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita.

Trained by Doug O’Neill, Nyquist roared on to the scene early this summer by winning the Best Pal Stakes (gr. III) and Del Mar Futurity (gr. I) in impressive fashion before stretching out around two turns and securing gritty wins in the FrontRunner Stakes (gr. I) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. After the Breeders’ Cup, he received some time off to get ready for 2016, but could be ready to roll in time for the San Vicente.

“It all depends on how he looks and feels,” O’Neill was quoted as saying in the Santa Anita Stable Notes for December 16th. “Right now the San Vicente is under strong consideration.”

Despite the fact that the San Vicente is still two months away, a quality field is already expected to contest the race, with Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (gr. III) winner Exaggerator also having been recently confirmed as a probable starter.
