In what is expected to be perhaps the most exciting early prep race for the 2016 Kentucky Derby, the $300,000 Remsen Stakes (gr. II) on November 28th at Aqueduct is expected to feature a showdown between Nashua Stakes (gr. III) winner Mohaymen and promising maiden winner Gift Box.

Owned by Shadwell Stable and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Mohaymen is unbeaten in two starts, breaking his maiden in impressive fashion sprinting six furlongs at Belmont before following up with an impressive late-running triumph in the one-mile Nashua Stakes.

Gift Box, trained by Chad Brown and racing in the silks of William Farish, finished third in a maiden race at Saratoga in August before coming back and winning an 8.5-furlong maiden race at Belmont by a nose over Matt King Coal. The latter, who is a possible starter for the Remsen, came back to win a one-mile maiden race at Belmont in impressive fashion.

According to the New York Racing Association, other probable starters for the Remsen are Donegal Moon, Hunter O’Riley, Runaway King, and Sail Ahoy, while Marengo Road is a possible starter.
