Materiality Returns to the Work Tab

Earlier this morning, Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Materiality breezed a half-mile in :49.03 at Belmont Park, his first timed workout since finishing sixth after a troubled trip in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I).

The work was the fifth-fastest of twenty-four morning workouts at that distance, and just 0.99 seconds off the bullet time of :48.04 posted by the three-time graded stakes-winning sprinter Merry Meadow and her stablemate Chomsky.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, the son of Afleet Alex is targeting a start in the June 6th Belmont Stakes (gr. I), where his tactical speed and strong pedigree should be major advantages in the twelve-furlong race.

Also breezing this morning was Competitive Edge, the impressive winner of the Pat Day Mile Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs on May 2nd. Competitive Edge, who is also trained by Pletcher, went a half-mile in :48.75 over the Belmont Park Training Track. The colt is targeting a start in either the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) or Woody Stephens Stakes (gr. II) on June 6th at Belmont.
