Florida Derby (gr. I) runner-up Majesto completed his preparations for the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) when he breezed five furlongs at Churchill Downs on the morning of April 29th.

With the three-time Eclipse award-winning jockey Javier Castellano aboard, Majesto worked solo and posted fractions of :12.80, :24.80, and :36.80 before completing the final quarter-mile in :24.60 for a final time of 1:01.40 seconds. He continued in solid fashion for another quarter-mile, getting six furlongs in 1:15 flat and seven furlongs in 1:28.60.

“Javier said he worked very easy,” trainer Gustavo Delgado was quoted as saying in a Churchill Downs press release. “I thought it was a very good work.”

Castellano has ridden Majesto in his last two starts, but is expected to ride Tampa Bay Derby (gr. II) winner Destin in the Kentucky Derby. As a result, Majesto might be in need of a new rider for the Derby, and Delgado is expected to announce Majesto’s jockey on April 30th.
