Lani Gallops at Churchill Downs

UAE Derby (UAE-III) winner Lani is settling in nicely at Churchill Downs and galloped six furlongs there on the morning of April 14th as he prepares for a start in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) on May 7th.

“He is getting used to the new surroundings very well,” Keita Tanaka, the agent for owner Koji Maeda, was quoted as saying in a Churchill Downs press release. “For the first few days things were a little crazy, but he’s doing everything okay. All of the people here are treating us really well, which makes me happy.”

The press release also noted that trainer Mikio Matsunaga will arrive on Monday to manage Lani’s training, and that Lani would turn in a timed workout–his first at Churchill Downs–on Wednesday.
