Flashback Friday: Zenyatta Wins the El Encino Stakes

Breeders’ Cup Photo ©

Eight years ago this month, the legendary Zenyatta made her stakes debut in the El Encino Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita. Reserved off the pace as usual, the great mare seemed to be too far behind at the top of the stretch to possibly rally and win, but in the final furlong, she swallowed up her rivals with remarkable ease to win going away by 1 3/4 lengths. Relive her stunning performance by watching the replay of the race!
