In a bit of exciting news for Zenyatta fans, Cozmic One–the first foal out of the legendary 2010 Horse of the Year–breezed five furlongs in a quick 1:00.91 at Belmont Park on the morning of September 25th.

Cozmic One’s workout, which was the third-fastest of eleven morning workouts at that distance, was his fourth of the month and his seventh since finishing seventh in the a maiden special weight at Belmont on July 8th. However, the time of today’s workout was substantially faster than his other recent workouts (1:02.52 and 1:04.66), signaling that the three-year-old colt may be very close to being entered in a race.

Looking at the Belmont Park conditions book, the first logical race on the schedule for Cozmic One is an 8.5-furlong maiden special weight on October 11th for 3yos and older, which appears to be a likely target for the colt. There is also an 8.5-furlong maiden special weight on turf scheduled for October 1st, but although Cozmic One is bred for success on turf, it is unlikely that he will be entered there since he has never recorded a timed workout on turf.
