American Pharoah Posts Final Pre-Derby Workout

American Pharoah, the expected favorite for the May 2nd Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), posted his final pre-race workout earlier this morning at Churchill Downs, cruising five furlongs in a brilliant :58 2/5 seconds.

According to the official clockers at Churchill, American Pharoah posted fractions of :11.40, :23 flat, :34.60, and :46.40 before galloping six furlongs in 1:11 2/5 and seven furlongs in an impressive 1:27 flat. Trained by three-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert, American Pharoah heads into the Derby with a record of four victories from five races, including a romping eight-length score in the Arkansas Derby (gr. I) at Oaklawn Park on April 11th.
